According to Mr. William Fitzgerald of Boone Co, KY. in 1986, the following was copied from an old family bible in Boone Co., and was assumed written by George W. Baker.

George W. Baker was born in Boone Co., Ky. on Mudlick Fork of Big Bone Creek Nov. 25, 1832.

My father Stewart Baker was born in Montgomery Co., Ky. July 1810.

His father Edwin Baker was born in North Carolina somewhere near "Rollo" (Raleigh?).

His father's name was Reason Baker and his mother's name was Nelly Baker nee Roberts.

Reason Baker and family came to Kentucky with Daniel Boone on Boone's second trip.

2.  EDWIN2 BAKER (REASON (SWAMP FOX)1) was born November 20, 1785 near Raleigh, North Carolina, and died October 09, 1879 in Boone co., Kentucky  (buried Baker Cemetery).  He married SARAH (SALLY) ROBERTS.  She was born September 18, 1789 in Kentucky, and died March 13, 1860 in Boone co., Kentucky  (buried Baker Cemetery).

 

Notes for EDWIN BAKER:

Edwin moved from Montgomery Co., KY to Boone Co., in 1815.

 

According to the 1830 Boone co. census he had 7 sons and 3 daughters. All are accounted for.

On the 1840 census he had 4 sons and 2 daughters at home.

             ii.     GEORGE WILLIAM BAKER, b. July 12, 1812, Boone co., Kentucky; d. Shelbyville, Missouri (Masonic Cemetery); m. REBECCA J. MOORE, January 19, 1835, Boone co., Kentucky; d. Shelbyville, Missouri.

George moved to Shelbyville, Shelby County, Missouri about 1865.

            iii.     MARY ELLEN BAKER, m. JAMES M. HUME, January 14, 1849, Boone co., Kentucky.

                                        REASON BAKER

                        (Farmer and Stock-raiser, Post-office, Oak Dale)

 

        Mr. Baker is a native of Indiana, born in Switzerland County

on the 26th day of January, 1822.  His parents were Edwin and

Sarah Baker, from South Carolina.  Reason Baker was reared in

Kentucky, and in 1843 was married to Miss Dorinda, a daughter

of William and Nancy Dudgeon, of Jessamine county, Ky., and of

the same original family of which William A. Dudgeon, of Fayette,

in Howard county, Mo., druggist and county treasurer, descends.

Mr. Baker came to Missouri in 1853 and settled in Shelby County,

where he bought 240 acres of land.  Soon afterwards he added 80

acres, making a fine stock farm of 320 acres, on  which he has

been engaged in raising grain and stock, the latter including

horses, mules, cattle, etc.  During the late war he served

about four months in the militia.  Mr. and Mrs. Baker have eight

children: James R., Amanda E., William M., Martha J., George E.,

Cornelius S., Reason C. and Richard M.  Three others died in

infancy.
