Nancy Ranck's Genealogy Web Pages

I was born Jane Nancy Chambers, am married to Thomas D. Ranck and have 5  grown children. My parents were Carl Covalt Chambers and Margaret Morrison; my grand parents George Gailey Chambers, Anna Covalt, James Harry Morrison and Lillian Maude Dushane.  Eventually I want to include all of these families on these pages. See my pedigree chart.

 My grandmother, Anna Covalt was double Covalt, daughter of Joseph Hixson Covalt and Elizabeth Covalt. She married George Gailey Chambers 6 AUG 1901 just as he was about to start his last year at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. George Gailey was the son of John Wilson Chambers and Mary Ann Gailey. Before attending college he taught school at a number of schools in Fulton County. He graduated from Dickinson College in June of 1902. After graduation he become interested in genealogy and did research on his Chambers and Gailey lines as well as his wife's Covalt ancestors. He worked on the Covalts in conjunction with his father-in-law Joseph Hixson Covalt and they planned to write a Covalt Genealogy. They sent questionnaires to Covalts around the country to get information about their families and completed group sheets on the individuals. Joseph Hixson Covalt operated a general store and post office in his home in Covalt, Pennsylvania and corresponded with other postmasters to obtain information on Covalts living in their areas.

Students taught by George Gailey Chambers 1890-97 before he went to college are listed on this page.

The book never got written, but their notes in addition to my research form the basis of these pages. For that reason I'm starting with the Colt/Coult/Covalt families and their ancestors and descendants.
My grandfather found that Abraham Covalt had been listed as Abraham Coult in early Cumberland Co, PA tax records, but he never followed through on this information. We have Gregg Kinney to thank for getting the first proof that Abraham Colt who married Elizabeth Gustin was the father of all the children that were named Covalt. Unfortunately Gregg is now deceased; I believe he would have been thrilled by some of the discoveries I've made, particularly Capt. Abraham's Christening record.

Gailey Family: These pages now include the descendants of Reverend John Gaileyof Gatchelville, York County PA. Mary Ann Gailey granddaughter of John Gailey was the mother of George Gailey Chambers.

Chambers Family- These pages include the descendants of Robert Chambers and Mary Ruet

Fife Family  These pages include the descendants of James and Robert Fife whose sister Mary married John Gailey
