19th of May 1843

Dear Brother & Sister,

I now feel it my duty, write you a few lines to let you know how we are all doing, and with grief and sorrow must say to you Our Dear Father is no more-- he died the day before yesterday, from a fall from a horse on his way to town carrying some pieces of iron which scared his horse and caused him to run away and threw him on the ground with such force that it injured his head and neck so that he died in 2 1/2 hours he never spok nor new anything from the time he fell the family and Connection are all well in health but afflicted on the account great loss James & George Andrew with their family are well as far is know and also your brother Gibson he is still living and Uncle Jesse Pavey.
