Polsgrove: Descendants of John George Paltzgraff-Original Immigrant

NOTE OF EXPLANATION

During the development of Jacob's Page, I kept it foremost. Most of that is finished, so I have brought the page of George-the Immigrant back to the front. Jacob's page can be found at the link in the DIRECTORY below, or you can go there now:Jacob2Clickor hereJacob2Click

Probable Father of our John George Pfalzgraf

John Jacob Pfaltzgraff, of Niederbroenn, Alsace, France. [There is the strongest possibility that this man and his wife Greta were the parents of both our John George as well as of Anna Margaretha, nee Pfaltzgraff, daughter of John Jacob Pfaltzgraff and his wife Greta ___________, b. 9-22-1695, Alsace, France.]This John Jacob did not immigrate.

Johann Jacob Cuntz/Kuntz, Sr.: "In Niederbronn, Bas Rhin, Alsace, France, he was a shoemaker. Anna Catharina Muller married Johannes George Kuntz, born 1665/1655; their son married Anna Margaretha Pfalzgraf.

Arrived in America in Phila from Rotterdam on ship "Charming Nancy" on Nov 9 1738. His wife, Anna Margaretha Pfalzgraf, died at sea. Of the 412 passengers on that ship, 250 died! The story is written in Annette Burgert's "Eighteenth Century Immigrants from the Northern Alsace". Also a writeup in "The Palatine Immigrant", Winter 1990/91, page 180, incl a sketch of the ship.

Anna Margaretha's death at sea is quite well documented. "According to several records, including those of the Oley Hill Church, Berks County,(see link below), Anna Margaretha Pfalzgraf died at sea on the voyage to America with her husband, Johann Jacob Kuntz, in 1738; she died in childbirth with an unnamed child. The Alsatian (France) records show that all of Johann Jacob Kuntz's children were born in Neiderbronn, Alsace, France, just over the border from Germany."

AN EMIGRATION STORY:
Sent to me by David Shiltz :
An article about Catharine Shoenberger, sister of Nathan Paltzgroff, from a newspaper, probably the Warren, Ohio, paper, published in 1902 or 1903:
Extract from the above article about the reason George Paltzgraff left the Rhineland in 1732
"The traditional family history handed down from generation to generation, says that many years ago in the town of [............], in the Pfaltz, on the river Rhine in Germany, lived a Count [Graff] Pfaltzgroff [Count of the Pfaltz, i.e., Palatine], who had a large estate, also a large family of children.
Through a lack of thrift and industry the estate went to ruin and the children to work. Several came to America and settled in the state of Pennsylvania.

NOTE:I believe this story to be essentially true. Times were bad (see the articles about the Palatine emigration at the links above). And I would disagree that these people let their estate go to ruin on purpose. "Pfaltz" was and is a State (now) in Germany, not a town. I believe our family came from Niederbronn, which is about 15 miles from the French-German border. It is not on the Rhine river. Whether the family "Patrone" was a Count or merely a wealthy relative of the same name no-one has discovered yet. We know of only two who arrived in the 1730's, GEORGE, 1732, and GRETA, 1738, who died en-route at sea.
The gist of the truth is here and I will be adding other traditions later.

New Info

Thomas Spatz has information that John George Palsgrove was born in Wurtemburg in 1741. This is George-2 the oldest surviving son of George and Barbara (Kamp) Palsgrove. I hope people don't try to start another fictitious branch of the family from this one occurence. George Palsgrove and Philip Emmert were in Wurtemburg in 1741 on Kamp family business. There is no passenger info of the St Mark that shows the names of any spouses or children on board in 1741. So we really do not know if he was born there or back in Philadelphia Co. Emmert and Palsgrove were from Niederbronn, now in France. Until someone can prove otherwise, this is they way it stands in so far as I am concerned.

GEDCOMS

GEDCOMS do not need to be placed on this website, because Rootsweb has its own place to put them. Rootsweb is a good place to put them for public viewing. But, now that MyFamily.Com owns Rootsweb, if you want a GEDCOM location for restricted viewing, it is a good place to put your GEDCOM. {See ads for links to MyFamily.Com} Here is how Rootsweb advises you on putting your GEDCOM on Freepages.:

HOW DO I PUT MY GENEALOGY ON Freepages?

The first step is to export your data in GEDCOM format (File/Gedcom/Export).
Now that you've got a GEDCOM file, there're a lot of things you can do:
Upload your GEDCOM to the WorldConnect server at RootsWeb:

WORLD CONNECT WorldConnect will dynamically create web pages out of your data. And, your family ancestry will be searchable along with the ancestry of over 1000 other users.
