These are the results for the current participants. So far we have six “multiple member” family
groupings. Each of the two larger
“clusters” of haplotypes has one or more German participants. We do not know the MRCA of any entire group. As you can see, each member of the “multiple
member groups” has very similar haplotype. As we gather more participants from
families who are not known to be related to any of the participants we may be
in for more surprises. We may add some
new haplotypes. [see Interpretation] Note: Some men chose to have more DYS markers
analyzed. This is becoming important
now that we would like to understand more about the branches of the
family. SO, watch for more results from
the lab! DYS 19 is also known as DYS
394.

The staff of Family Tree DNA [our lab folks]
note: “It is obvious from our
observation of 1000's of samples that some markers change or mutate at a faster
rate than others. While that actual 'faster rate' has not yet been definitively
calculated, not all markers should be treated the same for evaluation purposes.
The following markers are those which have shown a faster mutation rate then
the average, and therefore these markers are very helpful at splitting lineages
into sub sets, or branches, within our family trees. [385a & b; 439; 458;
449; 464a, b, c, d; 456; 576; 570; CDYa & b]
Explained another way, if you match exactly on all of the markers except for
one or a few of the markers we have determined mutate more quickly, [see list
just above] then despite the mutation this mismatch only slightly decreases the
probability of two people in your surname group who match 11 of 12 or even 34
of 37 of not sharing a recent common ancestor.
