Ron Bauerle's Lietzke Family Page
LIETZKE Family Genealogical Research
(by Ron Bauerle)

Welcome to my LIETZKE family page. I am descended from Frederick Edward Martin LIETZKE (1778-<1872) and Henrietta Charlotte (Dora) Lawrence/Lorenz (1815-1896). According to cousin Florence Vogt, the Lietzke & Zischke families lived within 5 miles of each other in Germany. Both husbands died in Germany. The mothers decided that both families would immigrate to America, which they did.

They settled in Sandusky Co, OH but soon most if not all of the Lietzke families ended up in Clinton Co, MI where my branch married into the Zischke and Bauerle families. Henrietta LORENZ/LAWRENCE ended up in DeWitt, MI where she is buried. An interesting note (legend?) about this branch from an unknown grandchild:

"The Lawrence boys came to Fremont, Ohio to see my great [sic?] grandmother Lietzke about 1880 and gave her some gold money when they came from California to look her up. The boys (her brothers) went to California during the gold rush in 1849-1850. They travelled by boat around South America. This was told to me by my father (Charles Lietzke) as he was about 9 years old at that time."

A discrepancy in this story is that Frederick's and Henrietta's son Carl (Charles?) was born in 1839, so either their visit was around 1848, or he was much older than the 9 years stated above. Also, it seems odd her brothers would've come to America almost 25 years before she did, but anything's possible I suppose...
