The Young connection

Robert and Martha (Holmes) Doughty (John D.'s adoptive parents) were neighbors to Nicholas and Ann Holmes Young.  The 1799 Philadelphia Directory show the Doughtys living at 222 North Front St and the Youngs at 220 North Front Street, Philadelphia, PA.

Mike's Note: It strikes me that out baby John D. would have aquired a signiificant level of affection for the Youngs during these years.  Hence the "Young" name is passed down to his off-spring.

The 1793 Philadelphia Directory shows Ann Holmes living at 23 Elfriths Alley then the 1794 Philadelphia Directory has Robert and Martha Holmes Doughty living at the same address with Ann. It seems Martha moved in with her sister Ann.  Ann Holmes later married (1795) to Nicholas Young at the 2nd Presbyterian Church.  Ann's daughter married Barnard Rush Hall who wrote "The New Purchase".
