MORRICLE

 

The Morricle family is one of two in the Civil War sections that has veterans from both the Northern and Southern armies.

 

Adam MORRICAL was born on January 23, 1842 in IN. He married Mariah Elizabeth MENDENHALL on November 21, 1875 in Jay Co., IN. He died on December 16, 1916 at age 74.

He began military service on August 10, 1862 in IN  enlisting in the 89th Indiana Infantry Regiment, Co. E.  Residence in New Mt. Pleasant. He ended military service on June 10, 1865; mustered out.

 

 

Henry MORRICAL was born in 1840 in IN.

He began military service on September 18, 1862 in IN.  Enlisted 20th IN Reg. Light Artillery as a private.  Residence in Jay Co., IN. He ended military service on June 28, 1865 in Indianapolis, IN; mustered out.

 

 

Mahlon MORRICAL was "prominent farmer...He followed mixed farming and his farm of 171 acres, with a good residence and barn, attested to his success."  He was born on October 30, 1840 in New Castle, IN.   He married Susannah NIXON on August 28, 1870 in IN. He married Jennie CLINES on September 23, 1877 in Jay Co., IN. He died on March 22, 1917 in Jay Co., IN, at age 76; buried Flesher Cemetery.

The "Biographical Memoirs of Jay County, Indiana," Bowen, Chicago, 1901 said "He was a hard working, honest man and he and his family were highly respected."

He began military service on August 10, 1862 in IN.  He enlisted in 89th IN Vol. Infantry, Co. E as a private.  His residence was New Mt. Pleasant. He was wounded in the right hand and arm during the battle of Nashville fighting in George H. Thomas' Union Army which defeated the Army of Tennessee led by General John B. Hood.

            During this battle, the 89th IN fought with the First Brigade, 2nd Division of a detachment of the Union Army of the Tennessee, which was led by Maj. Gen. Andrew J. Smith on December 16, 1864 in Nashville, TN. He ended military service on May 19, 1865; discharged.

 

 

Asberry MORRICLE was born in 1846. He began military service circa 1864 enlisting in the 4th VA Infantry Reserves, Co. I, Private. He died circa 1865.

 

 

Headen Bean MORRICLE was born on October 4, 1840.  He married Mary Emaline EPPERLY on December 20, 1866 in Floyd Co., VA. He died on October 9, 1914 at age 74; Buried in Agnew Cemetery.

He began military service circa 1861 in Floyd Co., VA enlisting in the 54th VA Infantry, Co. A.  Name when enlisted was spelled Merickle, Haden: Co. A, Enlisted on Sep.10, 1861 at Jacksonville.  Present on Dec 31, 1863.  Absent sick since Sep. 26, 1863 per Dec. 31, 1863 muster roll.  Taken POW on May 15, 1864 at Resaca, GA.  Sent to Rock Island, IL, where held until released on May 25, 1865.

 

 

PRATT

Jessee PRATT was born on September 21, 1840 in Floyd County, VA. He married Susan J. E. BOLLING circa 1870. He died on November 29, 1911 at age 71; Buried in Slaughter Cemetery, Floyd Co., VA.

He began military service on October 9, 1861 in Floyd C. H., Floyd Co., VA,  enlisting in the 54th VA INF, Co. D.

Detached Duty on 1/1/62.  Detailed as regimental wagoner on 11/23/63. 

            Deserted and took oath on 8/22/64.  He was a resident of Floyd Co., fair complexion, dark hair, black eyes, 5'11", released north of the Ohio River.  Post- war record indicates that he was disloyal.

            Born 9/21/1840.  Died 11/29/1911, buried in the Slaughter Cemetery, Conners Grove, Floyd Co., VA.

 

 

Silas PRATT was born in 1837 in Floyd County, VA. He married Catherine HYLTON, daughter of Henry A. HYLTON and Margaret HYLTON, on March 24, 1860 in Floyd Co., VA.

He began military service on October 9, 1861 in Jacksonville, VA when he enlisted in the 54th VA INF, Co. D.

Died at Prestonsburg, KY on Dec 26, 1861.

 

 

 

RANKIN

James RANKIN was born in 1824 in Pulaski Co., VA. He lived in 1850 in the 48th District, Pulaski Co., VA. He was a laborer in 1850. He married Amanda M. GODBY, daughter of Francis Marion GODBY and Rhoda WHITT, on February 12, 1850 in Pulaski Co., VA. He married Hannah ? circa 1855.  He died after 1870.

He began military service on September 10, 1863 in Pulaski Co., VA when he enlisted in the 4th VA INF, Co. C-"The Pulaski Guards." Present through at least Sept. 1864.

 

 

 

ROSEBERRY

Calvin ROSEBERRY  was born in 1818 in NC. He married Mary ? circa 1844 in Rockingham Co., NC. He lived in 1850 in Rockingham Co., NC. He was a farmer between 1850 and 1880.  He lived between 1860 and 1880 in Carroll Co., VA.  He died after 1880.

He began military service on May 16, 1864 in Hillsville, Carroll Co., VA when he enlisted in the 4th VA Reserves, Co. F.

 

 

George W. ROSEBERRY was born in February, 1844 in TN. He lived in 1860 in Hillsville, Carroll Co., VA; with father, Calvin. He was Farm Laborer and Farmer between 1860 and 1880.  He married Electra Flora (--?--) circa 1864 in Carroll Co., VA.  He died on June 7, 1929 in Pulaski Co., VA, at age 85.

He began military service on January 1, 1863 in Dublin, Pulaski Co., VA when he enlisted in the 37th Battalion VA CAV, Co. H.

Present on 9-10/63 and 4/64 rolls.

He lived between 1900 and 1920 in the Sulphur Spring District, Carroll Co., VA.

 

 

Jesse ROSEBERRY was born in 1825 in NC. He married Lucinda AUXIER circa 1840.

He began military service on September 6, 1862 in Scott Co., VA when he enlisted in the 25th VA CAV, Co. A.

Detached 12/l/62. AWOL Mar 23, 1863-Jun 15, 1863.  AWOL Jul 25, 1863-Dec 1864 rolls. Served in Scott Co. Militia.

 

 

Samuel ROSEBERRY;  born in 1820 in NC. He lived in 1841 in Rockingham Co., NC. He married Agnes Jane MANLY on November 20, 1841 in Rockingham, NC. He lived in 1850 in Carroll Co., VA where he was a farmer.  He owned 45 acres on Chestnut Creek and 23 1/2 acres on the waters of Chestnut Creek on October 1, 1855 in Carroll Co., VA.  He died on December 12, 1881 in Pulaski, VA; "tooth?ache," possibly "foots?ache."

He began military service on May 16, 1864 in Hillsville, Carroll, VA, Civil War Veteran, Enlisted in 4th VA RES, Co. F as Private. He was assigned to the Provost Guard at Dublin Depot in December of 1864. On December 30, 1864, Samuel was given a 15 day furlough and then on January 15, 1865 it was extended another 15 days.
