• CHURCH RECORDS •
Unterdorf was an "Evangelical" settlement and was part of the Rosenberg Parish. A few Unterdorf church records were obtained and posted to an Oberdorf web site, created by the late Teri Helzer. Alas, we've learned that the link to that site is broken, and we find no listing of any such site in the AHSGR Village Directory. We'll keep this "placeholder" tab active in hopes that a web site for Oberdorf may soon be located.
• CENTER FOR GERMAN VOLGA STUDIES •
This organization was created at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon, to "support research into and preservation of the heritage, history, traditions and accomplishments of the Volga Germans."
Center for German Volga Studies.
• NEIGHBORING VILLAGES •
Volga villages were very close to one another, and movement between villages was quite prevalent. The nearby villages of Oberdorf and Rosenberg had much in common with Unterdorf.
• SOCIALIST REPUBLIC • Like most ethnic regions of Russia, the Volga Germans never quite enjoyed the independence suggested by the title "Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of the Volga Germans."
