GANT - GHANT

I have a Polly Gant 27, living in Gill's Creek, Lancaster Co. in 1870 with Elizabeth 89, Rebecca 50, Malissia 24, Spencer 15, William 11, Ransom 4, Daucilla 4, Malsey 1 & Robert 8. In 1880 there is just Polly, Daucilla, Rebecca and Ransom living together in Gills Creek. All of these people are listed as being born In South Carolina.

Ransom who's full name is William Ransom Ghant is my Grandfather - in-law, his death certificate lists his father as John, I can't find John. These people appear to be relatives living together. It would be nice to know what Polly's maiden name was as I can't look for her in 1860.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

MONTGOMERY - BIGGET

We are descended from the Mecklinburg family of John Montgomery (b. NC-circa 1785-1870) & Margaret (Bigget) - Montgomery. John son of Robert - (b. PA-circa 1735). Our John Montgomery -(1785) migrated from Mecklinburg, NC. (circa->1800- census), SC >GA >AL. Had at least three (3) sons in Georgia - [including James S.-(b. GA-circa-1818)] before the final move, settling in what is now Metro-Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The extended family stretch's from Mecklinburg, Waxhaws, and in unknown Georgia Counties. Two questions; (1)- What Mongomery family relationships do you know of between- Mecklinburg and Waxhaws?? (2)- which Mecklinburg family is related to the family of the famous Col. James McConnell Montgomery of the Waxhaws and Jackson County, GA??? Any Intel or Light that you might shed on the above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and GOD BLESS, SEMPER FI

MONTGOMERY - MCCONNELL - STRANGE

My brick wall is James Montgomery, my 5G-grandfather. James Montgomery married first Elizabeth McConnell and second Susannah Strange. James Montgomery was born either 1736 or 1746. James Montgomery died in Jackson County, GA in 1808. Family tradition says his path was Northern Ireland, Lancaster County, Penn., VA then Waxhaw. James Montgomery started his family on Camp Creek in the 1760's. (The land he lived on was originally granted to John Linn. In 1757 the land was passed on to the Montgomery family.) Records suggest the following theory is most correct.

Hugh Montgomery Sr. of Waxhaw Children (birthdates are approximate):
1.) James Montgomery b: 1736/1746 married Elizabeth McConnell/Susannah Strange
2.) Robert Montgomery b: 1750 married (first wife ?)/Peggy Carroll (Andrew Jackson's
cousin)
3.) John Montgomery b: 1752/1753 married Martha Cousar (b: 1751) This John Montgomery remained in Waxhaw and is buried at the old Waxhaw Church. His son Col. John Montgomery was a Representative in the Legislature and a member of the old A.R.P. Church.
4.) Hugh Montgomery Jr. b: 1755 married Eliabeth Nisbet
5.) William Montgomery b: 1757 married Agnes Nancy Barkley
6.) Alexander Montgomery b: 1760 married Catherine King/Lydia Swayze
7.) Mary Eleanor Montgomery b: 1762 married John Kirk Sr. b:1751
8.) Samuel Montgomery b: 1764 married Eleanor (Nelly) Steen/ Margaret Crockett (b: 1770, daughter of Andrew Crockett and Mary McKin)
9.) Joseph Montgomery b: 1766 married Mary Ann Barkley/Mary Higdon
10.) Mary Ann Montgomery b: 1767 married Jonathan Mackey

CASTON - BUTTON - CATO - HENDERSON

I am seeking a descendant or researcher of the Erasmus Glass (or Glass Erasmus) Caston and Marie Button family. E. Glass was the son of Wilks Caston and Rhoda Cato. He was a blind pauper, according to the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records. I'm attempting to piece together this family. E.Glass and Marie appear to have had at least nine children: C.E. (female born 1835), Sarah born abt 1837, L. (female born 1840), M. (female born 1843, Margaret Susannah born 1847, died 1863, a male born 1849, Joseph D. born 1850, James R. born 1855 and Wilbur Erasmus born 1859.

In the 1850 census they were living with a Button family, presumably Marie's brother, in Lancasterville. In 1860 they were also in Lancasterville. In 1870 they were in Gills Creek, Lancaster Co, and by 1880 Marie was gone and E.Glass was living with his daughter and son-inlaw, Sarah and Samuel Kiesler, in Rock Hill, York Co.

I believe my 5th great grandmother, Celena Caston, is the child of E. Glass and Marie. Celena married James Henderson, editor of the Concord Gazette, in 1854 in York Co. They had one child, Louis Claude, who was born in 1865. James apparently died around 1865 and Celena remarried (to who???). My family story is that Louis Claude left SC (ran away) at about age 13 because he didn't like his step-father. He ended up in Jasper Co, MO and lived the rest of his life there, working as a miner.

I would love to communicate with anyone connected to this family.

LYNN

John & Naomi Lynn lived in that area in1750. John Lynn signed the deed to the Waxhaw Church. They removed to Wrightsborough, Ga. with the Quaker wagon train cir 1758.

I found a notation on the L D S family search that Naomi died in Rowan County in 1797. I would like to find any info as to where she is buried. I wonder if John Lynn died there.

Any info about their family members would be welcome. They had a married son, Thomas and wife Mary, who also lived in that area.

Thank you
