In January 1865 George and Elizabeth leased the mineral rights of the property upon which they and their family resided in Barren County to Elizabeth Kerr of Jefferson County, Ky.

In 1875 G.W. Mauk, son of George and Elizabeth, sold 42 1/2 acres to John Tyler Deweese. John Tyler was husband of Elizabeth Richards Mauk, daughter of Catherine, G.W.'s sister.

At the close of the Civil War, Benjamin Mauk left home. Family lore has it that he changed the spelling of his name at that time to "MOCK". Benjamin took up residence in Farlinville, Linn County Kansas. This is a photo of the town c. 1900. Benjamin's home would be one of the buildings on the right side of the photo.
