Charles ARDRON
II
(1858 - 1938)
Father: James Ardron II (1828 - 1902)
Mother: Martha Sugden (1826
- 1878)
Tree extract starting with common ancestor to me:
My G-G-Great Uncle was baptised on 29 July 1860 in Kilnhurst. His date of birth is shown as 23 March. His parents were James Ardron, a miner and Martha. (APR) However the GRO index of births has only an entry for a birth of this name in 1858. This would tie in with the four year gap between the births of Samuel and Naomi. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 394 Jun 1858) It would also tie in with his age as shown on the 1881 Census.
On the 1861 Census
(7 April) Charles was aged 3 shown as a visitor along with
his uncle, Henry
Ardron I (1835 - 1921) at the household of Charles Tyas in
Kilnhurst.
a) Charles Tyas, head, 38, steel miller
b) Hannah Tyas, wife, 40, Leeds
c) Henry Ardron, visitor, 26, Killamarsh
d) Charles Ardron, visitor, 3, Killamarsh
(PRO ref ??) However, I
am unsure why Charles would have been with his uncle Henry and why they were
both visiting a different household.

Obituary.
MR.
C. ARDRON
WOMBWELL
SPRITUALIST PIONEER
The death occurred last Thursday of Mr. Charles Ardron, of 31, Cemetery
Road, Wombwell, in his eightieth year. He was a leader of the Spiritualist
Church at Wombwell, a well-known figure in the town, and father of Mr. O.
Ardron, a prominent tradesman.
Mr. Ardron was born at Rawmarsh but had lived in Wombwell the greater
part of his life, last working at Darfield Main Colliery. From an early age Mr.
Ardron had a close association with the Spiritualist Church, and was a member
in the old days when the community, then very few in number, used to meet in an
upper room near the canal bridge in Station Road, and later over a blacksmith’s
shop in Melville Street. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the movement for
better accommodation for the members and his day of triumph was when he saw the
opening of the new church in Kelvin Grove, Wombwell. He was financial secretary
when the idea of the new church was first mooted and actually opened the
building account at the bank. He was therefore truly a pioneer. That was about
twenty years ago. He was also one of the first trustees of the church.
Mr. Ardron’s convictions were centred in the Spiritualist ideal, and he
took a deep interest in the inner meanings of the faith, but he was no way
sensationalist. Mr. T. W. Birkett, the present secretary of the church, pays
high tribute to him. For forty years he had been a regular attender at the
services every Sunday and had held many offices. He leaves a widow and three
married children.
THE FUNERAL.
The interment took place at Wombwell Cemetery on Monday, following a
service at the church in Kelvin Grove. The ceremonies, which were conducted by
Mr. B. Ball, secretary of the Sheffield District Committee of Spiritualists,
included an impressive ritual of dropping flowers on the coffin.
The mourners included: Mr. and Mrs. E. Ardron (son and daughter-in-law),
Mr. O. Ardron (son), Mr. Irving Ardron (grandson), Sister (Rotherham), Mr. and
Mrs. Cowling and niece and nephew (Rotherham), Mrs. Williamson (Barnsley), Mr.
and Mrs. Rodgers, and about sixty members and friends of the local and district
Spiritualist Churches. The widow was too ill to attend the funeral. Wreaths
were sent by Oscar and Nellie and family, Mr. and Mrs. Cowling, Edgar and
family, Mrs. E. Newberry and Kathleen, and a very large cross of yellow and
white chrysanthemums and tulips was sent from the members and friends of the
Wombwell Spiritualist Church.
M. Charlesworth and Son, funeral directors, York Street, Wombwell, had
charge of the funeral arrangements.
