Jane Eliza Shelby Jane Eliza (Jennie) Shelby was born 12 Dec 1846 in North Carolina and died 09 Oct 1902 in Henderson County, Texas. She first married John James Simons 24 Oct 1867 in Perry County, Alabama. He was the son of Henry Simons and Margaret Bradley. He was born 31 Dec 1842 in Dyer County, Tennessee and died 31 Dec 1869 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas. Following her first husband’s death, she and her two small sons lived with her parents in LaRue, Henderson County until she married George Thomas Dunklin on 15 Nov 1876. He was the son of James Dunklin and Cynthia Braham. He had also been married previously to Jennie’s cousin, Lorena Isabella Henderson, the daughter of William and Eleanor Henderson. Tom Dunklin was born 08 Nov 1844 in Alabama and died 13 Feb 1895 in Athens, Henderson County Texas. It is said that he died as a result of a fall from the roof of the Shelby Chapel which he was building. Tom and Jennie Dunklin are pictured at the right. By John James Simons, Jennie had two sons, Cicero Felix and James Elmo (see Simons Family). By Tom Dunklin she had eight children: Della, Georgie, Eliza Earle, Mary Una, Thomas Brooks, Joseph, Cora, and Gilbert Turner.
