"The first time I've found him was as a witness to a deed in 1842 and he was mentioned in another deed in 1846. Haven't found him on any census until 1850 Sullivan, living next door to his wife, Matilda's, sister.
He died maybe by June 1857 when the sale of his estate was recorded in Washington Co., TN. There was no date on this sale, but it was entered in the book between two other sales in June 1857. His inventory was recorded, though in March 1857, so that may be closer to when he died. His wife, Matilda (Copass), outlived him, but she was dead by the time of the 1860 census. Since anyone alive in January of the census year was supposed to be recorded, she may have died by 1859. The settlement of Samuel Murray's estate was 29 Dec 1859. Thomas H. Copass, brother of Matilda, was the administrator.
In 1860 Census, Sullivan Co., TN, their children were living next door to their grandfather, John Copass. At that time, the oldest son, Ira G. Murray, was listed as head of house hold."
