Mr. Joel Savage, age 75, of 214 McCulloch Lane, Wilmington, N.C., died Wednesday, January 22, 1997, in Mariner Health of Wilmington.
Mr. Savage was born October 4, 1921, in Duplin County, N.C., to the late Ernest and Pricila Cavenaugh Savage.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Savage of the home; three sisters, Daisey Batton, Annie Billings and Nora Brown; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Friday, January 24, 1997, in the Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services, Oleander Chapel, with Reverend Jim Plummer officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 8 p.m. at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Wallace - Mr. Willie E. "Bill" Sholar, age 75, of 212 Elm Street in Wallace, died early Thursday morning, January 23, 1997, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 1997, from the First Baptist Church of Wallace, conducted by Rev. Dennis N. Bazemore and Rev. James L. White III. Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Fussell Sholar; two daughters, Mrs. Debbie Waltz and husband, Tom, of Wilmington, and Ms. Christy Sholar of Florence, SC; one son, Terry Sholar and wife, Debbie, of Roanoke Rapids; two grandchildren, Scott Sholar and Katie Sholar; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Helen Rivenbark and husband, Johnny, and Mrs. Kathleen Blanton and husband, Bruce, both of Wallace; and one brother, R.W. (Toots) Sholar and wife, Hilda, of Wallace. He was predeceased by a brother, David E. Sholar.
A native of Duplin County, Mr. Sholar was the son of the late Perry and Lillie Blanton Sholar and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a car salesman with Jim Russ Chevrolet in Wallace, a retired Fireman and was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Wallace.
Casketbearers will be Lloyd Boone, Monroe Marshburn, Harry S. Carlton, Jim Russ Jr., Willie Biggs and Roy Steven Cavenaugh Jr. Honorary bearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Wallace, the Men's Bible Class of First Baptist Church of Wallace, and members of the Wallace Fire Department.
The family will receive at the Padgett Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and will be at their residence, 212 Elm Street in Wallace other times.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Wallace or a charity of one's choice.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Doris C. Brown and husband, Charles W. Brown of Rose Hill, Mrs. Patsy C. Lanier and husband, Stacy Lee Lanier of Lillington and Myrtle C. Norris and husband, George N. Norris of Teachey; two sons, Derald J. Cavenaugh and Gene Cavenaugh and wife, Dorothy M. Cavenaugh both of Teachey; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Cavenaugh was the daughter of the late Lewis Jasper and Margaret Brice Batts. She was the widow of Herman Jackson Cavenaugh and was a member of the Northeast Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church.
The family will receive at the Padgett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. George N. NOrris, 2983 South N.C. 11, Teachey other times.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 1997, from the First Baptist Church of Wallace, conducted by Rev. Dennis N. Bazemore. Burial will follow in Rockfish Cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Roy Stephen Cavenaugh Jr. of Wallace; four granddaughters, Angela Dawn Findeisen of Richlands, Kattie Cavenaugh, Rachael Cavenaugh, and Cara Cavenaugh, all of Kingwood, Texas; one grandson, Matthew Cavenaugh of Kingwood, Texas; and one great-grandson, Randy West Findeisen III of Richlands. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Mr. Carolyn Mildred Bryant Cavanaugh; and a son, Dudley Newton Cavenaugh.
A native of Duplin County, Mr. Cavenaugh was the son of the late Matthew Judson and Martha Britt Cavenaugh. He was former owner of Cavenaugh Chevrolet in Wallace, he was a member of the Wallace Masonic Lodge #595 for over fifty years, he was a North Carolina Aviation pioneer, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallace.
Casketbearers will be Buzzy Holland, Dick Roberts, Jim Russ Sr., Blake Wallace, John Dixon and Bobby Blanton. Honorary bearers will be Bill Sutton, David Henderson, Harry Carlton, Guy Barger, Paul Holland Marvin Carter, Lloyd Boone, The Mens Bible Class of First Baptist Church of Wallace, members of the N.C. Highway Patrol, and members of the Duplin County Sherriff's Dept.

"Madge Cavenaugh Childs

Madge Cavenaugh Childs died August 5, 1997, at a retirement home near the residence of her grandson in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was born March 15, 1902. Mrs. Childs had once been a resident of Wilmington, residing on Mimosa Drive in Oleander.
Mrs. Childs was married to Herbert R. Cavenaugh of Wilmington. After his death, she married Sterry Childs of New York. She is survived by her three grandsons, John Winn Cavenaugh of Oak Ridge, Tennesse, James Stephens Cavenaugh of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Herbert Roscoe Cavenaugh III of Irving, Texas.
Mrs. Childs was cremated and her ashes will be interred in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington. A graveside service will be conducted at Oakdale Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 1999, by the Rev. Ray Stringer of Stephenville, Texas."

She is survived by her husband, David C. Overman; two daughters, Brenda McArthur of Aycock Acres and Janice Howard of Lucama; three sons, Bobby Overman of the home, David Ray Overman of Aycock Acres and Randy Overman of Black Creek; her mother, Pauline Mozingo of Pikeville; five sisters, Louise Bissette, Dorothy Langston and JoAnne Teachey all of Pikeville, Ruby Gurley of Goldsboro and Jean Martin of Nipono, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Ray Mozingo of Sharpsburg; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11 at Shackleford Funeral Chapel in Fremont. Interment will be in Pikeville Cemetery.
Mrs. Mozingo was bon May 15, 1913, in Lenoir County, and was a daughter of the late John and Betty Carter of Kinston. She was a member of Faro Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and was a resident of Rose Vista of Goldsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; daughter, Margaret Overman of Fremont; grandchildren, Linwood Earl Gurley and Pat Teachey; and great-grandchildren, Eric Ezzell and David Avery Overman.
Surviving are daughters, Ruby Gurley of Goldsboro, Dorothy Langston of Stantonsburg, Louise Bissette and her husband E.C. of Pikeville, Joann Teachey and her husband Willie of Pikeville, and Jean Martin and her husband Hugh of Nipoma, Calif.; a son, Kenneth Mozingo and his wife Tina of Elm City; and 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 until 8:30 p.m. At other times they will be at the home of Willie and JoAnn Teachey at 202 S. Mill Street in Pikeville."

Dewey Edward Cavenaugh of Wilmington, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 1998, in Cypress Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Centre.
He was born on March 14, 1915, in Duplin County, NC, the son of the late Carmer and Susan Jane Walker Cavenaugh and was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Helen Norris Cavenaugh.
Mr. Cavenaugh was a member of Devon Park United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in World War II, was a survivor of Pearl Harbor, and served aboard the USS Cunningham. Following his retirement from the US Navy as Chief Gunner's Mate, he was employed by the State of Norht Carolina to oversee the refurbishing of the guns and the establishment of the Sound and Light Spectacular aboard the USS N.C. Battleship Memorial. He retired in 1977 as the last member of the original crew of the Battleship Memorial, having served in this capacity for 16 years.
Surviving are his daughter, Jane C. Weeks; his son, Dewey Edward Cavenaugh Jr. and wife, Kimberly, all of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren, Theodore Morris Weeks, Michael Shannon Weeks, Brandon Sean Cavenaugh, Kayla Erin Cavenaugh and Joshua Ryan Cavenaugh, all of Wilmington, NC; one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Brooke Weeks of Goldsboro, NC; two brothers, Clifton Cavenaugh and wife, Helen, of Castle Hayne, NC, and Frank Cavenaugh and wife, Gladys, of Wilmington, NC; one sister, Hazel Cavenaugh Jenkins and husband, Roy, of Castle Hayne, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special church family at Devon Park United Methodist Church.
Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 1998, in Oleander Memorial Gardens by Rev. Willie Frizzelle.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel, and at other times will be at the residence of Jane Weeks, 309 Breckenridge Drive, Wilmington.

Mr. James Clifton Cavenaugh Sr., 81, of 5300 Castle Hayne Road, Castle Hayne, N.C. died November 4, 1998 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Cavenaugh was born in Duplin County, N.C. March 16, 1917 to the late Carmer and Susan Walker Cavenaugh. He was preceded in death by a son, Glynn E. Cavenaugh Sr. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army as a Technical Sergeant, receiving the Eamet Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Silver Star Medal and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Helen H. Cavenaugh of the home; two sons, James Clifton Cavenaugh Jr. of Carolina Beach, N.C. and David Wayne Cavenaugh and wife, Rachel of Rocky Point, N.C., one daughter, Elanine Cavenaugh Peterson and husband, David of Wilmington, N.C.; one brother, Frank Cavenaugh and wife, Gladys of Castle Hayne, N.C.; one sister, Hazel Jenkins and husband, Roy of Castle Hayne, N.C.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a dear friend, Chris Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 1998 in the Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel with Reverend Kenny Chinn officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

Sanderson, Bradley C. Sanderson, Johnny A. Sanderson, all of Wallace, Roy C. A native of Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Myrtle Cavenaugh Harrell and was the widow of Russell Montague. She was a retired dietitian for Cherry Hospital and was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church and the Order of Rebeccas.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. and Betty Brown of Goldsboro; grandchildren, William Wilson Jr., Steven Brown, Brian Wilson and Benjamin Brown; and a great-grandchild, William Wilson III.

Surviving Mrs. Smith are one son, Sydney Erwin Smith of Rose Hill; one daughter, Dora Ellen Smith Strickland of Mount Olive; and seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Surviving is his loving wife of 4[...] years, Bettye Cottle Lanier and four sons, Tracy Carroll Lanier Jr. of Greensboro, NC, Stephen Clark Lanier and wife, Brenda, of Rocky Point, Gary Cottle Lanier Sr. of Burgaw and Clifton Craig Lanier and wife, Debra, of Beaufort, NC; four grandchildren, April Lanier, Gary Lanier Jr., Daniel (Bud) Lanier and Bradley Lanier; and two great-grandchildren, Blaine Allen Lanier and Cody Lanier. He was born in Duplin County, N.C., on February 14, 1923, the son of the late Carmer Cavenaugh and Susan Walker Cavenaugh.
He was a beloved member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 45 years and served in many areas of the church especially as church treasurer for many years. He was retired from W.R. Grace Company.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gladys Mobley Cavenaugh; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Martin and husband, John of Jacksonville, N.C.; four sons, Thomas Franklin Cavenaugh Jr. and wife, Janice, Bruce Cavenaugh and wife, Alice, Jeffrey Cavenaugh and wife, Barbara, and Gary Cavenaugh and wife, Carlita, all of Wilmington; eleven grandchildren, Beverly Johnson, Laurie Taylor, Nissa Curtis, April Cavenaugh, Brent Cavenaugh, Jonathon Cavenaugh, Matthew Cavenaugh, Allison Cavenaugh, Jessica Foy, Rebekah Cavenaugh and Carlette Cavenaugh; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Hazel Jenkins and husband, Roy of Wilmington.
